Katy Watson writes contemporary Golden Age–style cosy crime, blending classic puzzle plotting with modern warmth, wit and glamour.

She is the author of the Three Dahlias Mysteries, which follow three actresses from different generations, all famous for playing the same fictional detective, Dahlia Lively, who team up to investigate real-life murders together. The series celebrates female friendship, found family and clever mysteries, and is known for its playful engagement with crime fiction tropes and fandom.

Readers are drawn to the books for their sharp, satisfying puzzles, glamorous settings and the enduring appeal of three clever women supporting one another.

Katy grew up in North Wales in a family of folk singers, storytellers and murder-mystery addicts, and spent her teenage years devouring paperback Christies. After writing professionally for eight years, and publishing more than forty-five books for children, teenagers and adults, she turned to crime with The Three Dahlias.

The Three Dahlias was Waterstones Thriller of the Month in 2023, and recent novels in the series include a murder behind the scenes of a London West End theatre, alongside crimes at film sets, festivals and snowed-in Scottish castles. The sixth book, Death on a Lively Sea, set aboard a luxury mega-yacht in the Mediterranean, will be published in July 2026.
